Thai cucumber salad (sa-lat tang gua) recipe



Recipe for thai cucumber salad (sa-lat tang gua) in our easy ethnic recipes collection. This refreshing cucumber salad can be served with a meal or as a snack. It is a popular side dish with thai spring rolls.

Recipe ingredients

  • 6 cherry tomatoes, halved, or 2 Roma tomatoes, diced
  • 2 cucumbers, peeled, seeded, and coarsely shredded
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (*)
  • 2 tablespoons lime or lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish, optional

(*) When cooking with red pepper flakes or ground red pepper, a little goes a long way. It is easy to add a little more red pepper when you want to and impossible to take it out when there's too much. Try adding 1/8 teaspoon of pepper flakes at a time, then tasting.

How to make thai cucumber salad (sa-lat tang gua)

  • Combine all ingredients except cilantro in a large bowl. Lightly crush tomatoes and green onions with a large spoon and mix well.
  • Garnish salad with fresh cilantro. Serve cold or at room temperature. Drain off any excess liquid just before serving.
