Lebanese chickpea and tahini dip (hummus bi tahini) recipe



Recipe for lebanese chickpea and tahini dip (hummus bi tahini) in our easy ethnic recipes collection. Hummus is a paste made from ground chickpeas, spices, and tahini, ground sesame seeds. This quick and simple dip is standard fare throughout the Middle East.

Recipe ingredients

  • 1, 15 ounces, can chickpeas
  • 3 tablespoons tahini (*)
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled
  • Juice of 2 lemons, about 6 tablespoons
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Parsley sprigs for garnish
  • Olive oil

(*) Prepared tahini is available in middle eastern and asian groceries or in the international or gourmet section of some supermarkets.

How to make lebanese chickpea and tahini dip (hummus bi tahini)

  • Reserving the liquid from the chickpeas, combine chickpeas, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and salt in a blender or food processor. Add a little of the reserved chickpea liquid and process until mixture is a smooth paste. Add more liquid if necessary.
  • Divide hummus among four small plates or serve in one dish. Garnish with parsley and sprinkle with a few drops of olive oil. Serve with pita bread.
