Indian toffee (barfi) recipe



Recipe for indian toffee (barfi) in our easy ethnic recipes collection. Families exchange plates of sweets during Diwali. Barfi, a favorite treat at many celebrations, is quick and easy to make, which allows more time for socializing.

Recipe ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 ounces condensed milk
  • 1 cup mixed nuts, chopped (*)
  • 3/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

(*) You can use a variety of nuts in this toffee, depending on the items on hand and those you would like to purchase at the store. Try any combination of almonds, cashews, peanuts, walnuts, pistachios, and sesame seeds.

How to make indian toffee (barfi)

  • Bring sugar and water to a boil. Remove from heat.
  • Add remaining ingredients and stir until mixture thickens and resembles dough.
  • While mixture is hot, roll it out in a layer 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick on a greased surface or a piece of wax paper. Immediately cut into squares. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Preparation time: 15 to 20 minutes
